Hindustan Aeronautics signs contract with Mauritius to export advanced light helicopters

Bengaluru: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has inked a deal with the Government of Mauritius for the export of one Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH Mk-III) for the island nation's police force, in accordance with the central government's objective to expand defence exports to friendly foreign countries.

HAL and the Government of Mauritius, which already flies a HAL-built ALH and Dornier-228 aircraft, have further enhanced their long-standing business links, according to a statement released on Wednesday by the Bengaluru-based corporation.

The contract was signed at HAL's Transport Aircraft Division in Kanpur by B K Tripathy, General Manager, Helicopter Division-HAL, and O K Dabidin, Secretary of Home Affairs, Prime Minister's Office, Government of the Republic of Mauritius.

According to HAL, the ALH Mk-III is a multi-role, multi-mission adaptable helicopter in the 5.5 tonne category. "It has demonstrated its mettle in a range of utility roles, including multiple life-saving missions during natural disasters in India and overseas," according to the release.

More than 335 ALHs have been built to date, with a total flying time of around 3,40,000 hours. It was also mentioned that HAL provides technical help and product support to the customer to assure the helicopter's continued serviceability.
