Srinagar: The results of the assembly elections in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir are becoming clearer. In Haryana, the BJP is poised to achieve a significant victory, leading in 51 out of 90 seats, marking a hat-trick win for the party. In contrast, Congress is expected to find itself in the opposition once again.
Meanwhile, in Jammu and Kashmir, Congress has benefited from its alliance with the National Conference, gaining an opportunity to participate in governance. Although the BJP did not win this first election following the abrogation of Article 370, its strong performance in Haryana is noteworthy. BJP workers are expressing great satisfaction with the results, and there is speculation that this victory could influence the upcoming assembly elections in Jharkhand.
Political analysts suggest that, following the Lok Sabha elections, the India alliance had shown strength against the BJP, resulting in significant losses for the party in Hindi-speaking states, which had initially pleased Congress supporters. They credited Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra for stopping the BJP from achieving an outright majority. There were expectations of a power shift in Haryana after a decade of BJP governance; however, the party is now on track to create history with a third consecutive term.
The BJP's success in Haryana has revitalized its workers, which the party hopes to leverage in Jharkhand. The current political climate in Jharkhand, marked by increasing incidents of attacks on Hindus, issues related to love jihad, and concerns over Bangladeshi intrusions in tribal areas, has put the Hemant Soren-led government in a challenging position. The BJP is gearing up to campaign on these issues and believes that the momentum from its victory in Haryana will aid its efforts to regain power in Jharkhand.
On the flip side, the Congress party, under Rahul Gandhi's leadership, has faced yet another defeat in a Hindi-speaking state, which may prompt renewed scrutiny of his leadership abilities.
