New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs has called a meeting of the states regarding the National Population Register (NPR) today. West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee has already announced that it will not be included. On the other hand, Kerala General Administration Department Principal Secretary KR Jyotilal has said that Kerala will attend the meeting called by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Let us tell you that in this meeting, talks will be held on census, NPR and suggestions will be taken. According to officials, the meeting will be chaired by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai. Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Chief Secretary and Census Director will also be involved. An official of the Ministry of Home Affairs has told that in the meeting, detailed discussion will be held on the phase of census and house listing to be started under NPR. This phase will run from April 1 to September 30, 2020. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee refused to attend the meeting called by the Center on NPR today. Challenging Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, Mamta said that the state government should be sacked if it is not running on the center line. The state government has stopped the NPR process in the state only last month. She again reiterated that she would not allow CAA, NPR and NRC to be implemented in West Bengal.
