India has been chosen to host the men's Junior Hockey World Cup in December 2025, marking the first time in history that the tournament will feature 24 teams. This decision was announced by the Executive Board of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) on Tuesday, June 11. FIH President Tayyab Ikram emphasized the importance of expanding opportunities for more national associations to participate in major hockey events. "Increasing the number of participating teams for the Junior World Cup aligns with our strategy to empower and engage a diverse range of countries," Ikram stated. He highlighted the success of the recent Hockey5s World Cup in Oman as an example of the value that diversity brings to hockey events. "I am delighted that we will have 24 young teams, representing the future of our sport, competing in next year's Junior World Cup," Ikram added. The most recent edition of the Junior World Cup was held in Kuala Lumpur in 2023, where Germany emerged as the champions with a 2-1 victory over France. Spain and India secured third and fourth places, respectively. India has previously hosted the Junior World Cup three times—in 2013 (New Delhi), 2016 (Lucknow), and 2021 (Bhubaneswar). India clinched the title in 2016. "I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Hockey India for their commitment to organizing another outstanding event," Ikram expressed. Dilip Tirkey, President of Hockey India, commented on the significance of hosting such a prestigious tournament. "This event underscores India's growing stature in international hockey and demonstrates our dedication to fostering the sport for future generations," Tirkey stated. Bhola Nath Singh, Secretary General of Hockey India, described this announcement as a significant milestone for the organization. "We appreciate the FIH's confidence in us. This tournament presents a wonderful opportunity to elevate hockey to new heights, inspiring a whole new generation of players and fans in India and around the world," Singh added. "We are committed to making this tournament a memorable experience that celebrates everything hockey stands for," Singh concluded.
