How north India's weather changed suddenly, IMD explains

New Delhi: Half a month has passed since December and most parts of the country are experiencing severe cold wave conditions. We are expecting cold wave conditions in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Northern Rajasthan, Uttar Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh till December 21. IMD Thereafter, the minimum temperature is expected to rise slightly further and hence the cold wave conditions can be reduced.

The Indian Meteorological Department further said the day temperature in Northwest India is much below normal. Therefore, the cold wave conditions here are adversely affecting the below normal day temperature. The day temperature is expected to remain below normal till December 21. For the past 3 days, cold wave conditions to severe cold wave conditions are prevailing in some parts of North-West India, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Raj, and some parts of West UP and North Madhya Pradesh. Night temperature is below normal and cold to severe cold wave is prevailing in the state.

It is also estimated that cold wave/cold wave conditions in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh for the next 4 days. Severe cold wave conditions may persist. This situation is likely to prevail in Gujarat for the next 3 days, in northern Rajasthan in the next 5 days, and in western UP from 19th to 21st December. According to IMD, most parts of northwest India and Maharashtra may see a gradual drop in minimum temperature by 2-3 degrees Celsius. The temperature may drop by 3-5 degrees Celsius in most parts of central India in the next 4 days.
