Children often internalize gender role stereotypes from books, songs, television, and movies. Television, is the most influential form of media. Research on television viewing and children's socialization indicates that television has a great impact on children's lives. Children spend on an average of 4 to 5 hours watching television. Considering that children spend more time watching television than any other daily activity, it is not a surprise that it will have an impact on their behaviour. Watching television can affect a child’s academic performance as it replaces activities that helps school performances like reading, learning, doing their homework, getting enough sleep, etc. Certain television shows depict violence, aggressiveness and anti-social behaviour. This is unhealthy for your child. Watching too much television can hamper the child’s social development; as the child does not talk or play and interact with other kids. Children tend to see the world around them as a mean and scary place. Watching violent and other disturbing things like the scary monsters in cartoons or a bad guy chasing the good guy makes them emotionally disturbed or make it difficult for them to sleep at night. Certain advertisements shown are of toys, games, etc. which has a bad influence on children, making them want and sometimes demand those same things they see.
