New Delhi: The President of the country Ramnath Kovind has approved the renaming of the Ministry of Human Resource Development to the Ministry of Education. According to the notification issued on Monday night, the name has been changed after some major changes were made to the draft new education policy after the approval of the cabinet last month. The new education policy will come into effect from next year. The Ministry of Education was named as HRD Ministry in 1985 during the tenure of PM Rajiv Gandhi. PV Narasimha Rao became the first HRD minister. On 29 July the Union Cabinet approved the new education policy. Along with this, it was also decided to name the Ministry of Human Resource Development as the Ministry of Education. Last year, a committee headed by K Kasturirangan submitted a draft of the new education policy to the Ministry of Human Resource Development. Many big changes have been made in the new education policy, from school education to higher education. The Ministry had asked people to give their suggestions on this draft. More than two lakh suggestions were received on this draft. After 34 years major changes have been made in the school education system and higher studies. PM Modi also praised this new policy in his address on Independence Day.
