Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF) has proudly inaugurated a cutting-edge waste management plant in Gurugram, signaling a significant step towards environmental stewardship. This remarkable project is the result of a collaborative effort between Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL), the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram, Haryana State CSR Trust, and the esteemed NGO, Saahas. In a dual initiative, HMIF also unveiled a visionary waterbody rejuvenation project, carried out in partnership with the GuruJal Society in Gurugram district. This concerted endeavor is bound to leave a lasting impact on the community. The inaugural event was graced by the esteemed presence of Nishant Kumar Yadav (IAS), Deputy Commissioner of Gurugram, who wholeheartedly praised the relentless efforts of Hyundai Motor India Foundation in supporting the Haryana government's quest for a sustainable and clean future. These initiatives are a stepping stone towards transforming Gurugram into a 'Swach and Smart City.' Notably, the 'Eco-Gram' waste management program and pond restoration initiative serve as catalysts in India's journey towards achieving net carbon neutrality by 2070. Speaking passionately about the endeavor, Puneet Anand, AVP and Vertical Head, Corporate Affairs at HMIL, emphasized the brand's global vision of 'Progress for Humanity,' which has now extended its impact to creating a sustainable and conducive environment. The 'Eco-Gram' project is an ingenious solution to the city's waste management challenges, aiming to reduce carbon emissions in the bustling metropolis. With this initiative, HMIF is committed to resolving waste management issues, curbing waste dumping and burning, and concurrently generating bio-gas as a renewable source of electricity. "Eco-Gram" stands as a transformative model, fostering social change and positioning Gurugram as a role model for community waste management in other Indian cities. Aside from waste management, HMIF has also taken the noble initiative of restoring three ponds in Gurugram district. These rejuvenated waterbodies in Hariahera, Sohna, Palasoli in Pataudi, and Tajnagar in Farrukhnagar block will collectively replenish 93 million liters of groundwater and treat 260 million liters of water, securing a brighter future for the region's natural resources. The additional planting of over 450 trees and shrubs around the ponds is projected to reduce a significant 2,500 tons of carbon dioxide annually while generating an impressive 84 tons of oxygen. This harmonious undertaking is set to enrich the flora and fauna of the area, benefiting over 8,000 residents every year. At the core of the "Eco-Gram" project lies an innovative approach to waste management, providing Gurugram with an alternative and sustainable solution. With the capacity to process 2 tons of wet waste and 5 tons of dry waste per day, this waste management facility is poised to save the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram a substantial amount of Rs 20-24 lakh annually that would have otherwise been spent as a tipping fee at the landfill. Furthermore, the bio-gas produced as a by-product is ingeniously converted into a renewable source of electricity, efficiently illuminating the streets and surrounding areas. The benefits of this remarkable project are manifold: Reduced Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Support Circular Economy: India's commitment to building a circular economy and reducing carbon intensity is paramount. The "Eco-Gram" project plays a crucial role in optimal waste management, curbing GHG emissions released from landfills, and contributing to a cleaner future.
