Former Olympian PT Usha Conferred with IAAF Veteran Pin Award

New Delhi: India's runner PT Usha was honored by the International Association of Athletics Federations. The Federation awarded her the 'Veteran Pin'. She was awarded this award for her contribution to the sport. IAAF chief Sebastian presented Veteran pin to PT Usha during the 52nd IAAF Congress. Three players from Asia were honored with this award, one of which is Usha.

After receiving the honor, Usha tweeted, 'I thank the IAAF and President Sebastin for honoring the Veteran PIN at the 52nd IAAF Conference in Doha. I will continue to contribute to promote athletics in my country. Her memorable performance has been at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics in which she became the first Indian to reach the finals of the 400 meter Hurdle race but missed out on a bronze medal by a hundredth of a second. PT Usha is called the queen of track and field.

She won gold in the 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 400 meters Hurdle and 4x400 meters relay at the Asian Games held in 1985 in Jakarta. She was given the Arjuna Award in 1983, followed by the Padma Shri in 1985, two years later. Her name is also listed in the list of great players in the country.
