ICC T20I rankings: Ishan jumps 10 places to 23rd, Hooda re-enters top 100

India opener Ishan Kishan jumped ten places to 23rd position whereas Deepak Hooda re-entered the top-100 in the latest ICC rankings for T20I batters issued on Thursday, January 5.

Following their outstanding efforts in India's two-run victory against Sri Lanka in the opening T20 International on Tuesday in Mumbai, both players rose up the table.

After scoring an unbeaten 41 off 23 balls, Hooda rose 40 spots to 97th, and Kishan received recognition for his quick 37-run top of the order innings. Despite a rare failure in Mumbai, the dashing Suryakumar Yadav kept his place atop the batters' rankings.

Hardik Pandya, the new T20I skipper of India, rose nine spots in the rankings to be in 76th place among bowlers. With stats of 1/22 with the ball against India, Wanindu Hasaranga once again made a significant contribution for Sri Lanka, helping the right-armer to further establish himself as the top T20I bowler.

Hasaranga, 25, moved up two ranks to fifth on the most recent list of all-rounders after scoring a quick-fire 21 with the bat as well.

Marnus Labuschagne continues to lead the pack in the Test batter rankings despite his poor performance in the Boxing Day Test against South Africa.

However, the 28-year-old Labuschagne's main challengers, including teammate Steve Smith, Pakistan captain Babar Azam, and former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, are gaining ground on him.

Williamson is the other notable riser in the most recent rankings; after scoring his sixth double century of his illustrious career in the first Test against Pakistan, the veteran right-hander moved up two spots and into the top five at number five. In the Boxing Day Test, Australia defeated the Proteas, and Pat Cummins only achieved one wicket while bowling, but he still had a significant lead of 37 points over James Anderson of England.
