IIT Guwahati students compliment for virtual placements during the pandemic

A virtual recruitment process was conducted for the first time in the history of IIT Guwahati. They initiated its virtual placement season 2020-21 on December 1, 2020. Even students being present within the campus premises, the administration made extensive efforts to keep the graduating students connected to the prospective recruiters. 

The Centre for Career Development looks after recruitment affairs state that they were initially apprehensive about conducting the recruitment process when the pandemic rapidly emerged as a serious threat and nationwide lockdown was imposed.

Call for volunteering students 

Prioritising student safety, all the campus inmates, barring the faculties residing within the campus, were safely sent back to their homes. Team CCD called for volunteering students from across the nation. Person of contacts and department representatives were chosen in such a manner that there would be at least one person accessible within a region and at the same time every academic programme has sufficient representation in the process.

A student of IIT Guwahati contracted from Covid-19 recalled the way this news weakened him physically and morally. He expresses his gratitude towards the institute counselling team and also extends his gratitude towards the placement team and the representatives, who helped him not to miss out on the opportunities due to Covid-19. The team CCD managed each bottleneck effectively. 

Priyanshu Pancham Ram Singh, a student of MTech Computer Science and Engineering programme, recounts, “During my interview, a major fault occurred from ISP side. The fear of losing the placement opportunity scared me but the placement team and volunteers put their efforts to help me.”

Rohit Kumar, another student of IIT Guwahati, was facing severe network problem. The team ensured his safe return to campus, to let him take the placement tests and interviews smoothly. Rohit successfully bagged an offer from MX Player.

New placement offers for graduated candidates who lost earlier offers

During this season, the institution also saw new offers being extended to graduated candidates whose previous offers were removed due to the pandemic. One student named Shruti Sharma has been given an offer from Blackrock in this placement session.

Despite their initial apprehensions, due to immense support offered by the IIT Guwahati administration and the cooperation from their recruiters, they have been able to conduct the placement process easily.
