Gehlot government giving free water, fee being charged on illegal water connection

Jaipur: The Gehlot government is providing water free of cost to the people of Rajasthan, but on the other hand, the water supply department is robbing the people of Jaipur.

According to the media report, the water department is charging stamp duty from the public on domestic new connection without any rules, in which Rs 650 is being collected in the name of agreement and consent form. The previous government had waived both the charges, but for the last few days, without an amendment in the rules, the PHED department is working to rob the people of Jaipur. Earlier, the new water connection had to be given a declaration but now 550 rupees of agreement and 100 rupees of consent letter are being taken from the consumers.

The recovery of stamp duty on the new connection, Chief Whip Mahesh Joshi and MLA Amin Kanji have written a letter to the Water Minister, BD Kalla, requesting exemption of stamp duty. The Contractors and the Public Welfare Committee have also come out in protest against this fee. Jan Kalyan Samiti convenor Omprakash Agrawal says that it is not right to take stamp duty without any rules. The water department will have to withdraw this fee immediately so that consumers do not have to face any kind of trouble.
