Vijaywada: The Congress President Rahul Gandhi said he will make good on the promise of the then UPA government to provide special status to the state. Congress also attacked PM Modi for refusing to honour the commitment, made by UPA government under the leadership of then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, to the people of Andhra Pradesh. Gandhi said, “It's our commitment that we'll give special status to Andhra Pradesh the moment we come to power in Delhi,” Sushma Swaraj explained why she added the prefix 'Chowkidar' During the rally in Vijawada Sunday, Gandhi reiterated his party’s proposed NYAY scheme to provide Rs 20,000 to the poorest strata or the bottom 20 percent of the population. Gandhi’s pitch for NYAY to the people of Vijawada didn’t come without a jab for Modi’s 2014 poll-promise to put Rs 15 lakh in every bank account. Gandhi said, “Rs 72,000 a year....I'm not Mr Modi, I don't lie. He said he'll give you Rs 15 Lakh, that was a lie...Govt of India cannot give you Rs 15 Lakh in bank account but Govt of India can give Rs 72,000 a year to the poorest people in India. He said, “I and Congress party will deliver the NYAY (Nyuntam Aay Yojana) scheme like we delivered MGNREGA, White Revolution and Green Revolution.
