CHENNAI: Thunderstorms with light to moderate rains are expected in the next 48 hours in Chennai, the Indian Meteorological Department's Regional Centre predicted. Partly cloudy skies will prevail, with maximum and lowest temperatures hovering around 38 and 29 degrees Celsius, respectively. Westerlies were converging with moisture-laden sea breezes, generating convection, according to the IMD, and a lower level circulation was increasing convective activity, bringing rain in. P. Senthamarai Kannan, head of the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre said, there was a circulation at 1.5 km height that might last another two to three days. Due to a lack of strong breezes, the rain clouds did not move, causing high temperatures in Chennai and its suburbs on Thursday. This has led the city to experience high temperatures and a gloomy atmosphere. For the next 48 hours, the IMD predicts high temperatures and rain due to convection caused by the convergence of winds. According to IMD officials, the likelihood of the same weather conditions persisting in Chennai and its suburbs for the next few days is high.
