Independence Day-2022: 1,082 police personnel given gallantry medals for good service

NEW DELHI:  On the occasion of Independence Day, as many as 1,082 police personnel received Police Medals, according to a statement released on Sunday by the Ministry of Home Affairs .

There were 347 police officers who were awarded gallantry medals. According to Home Ministry, "204 troops received awards for their gallant actions in Jammu and Kashmir, 80 received awards for their gallant deeds in areas impacted by left-wing extremism, and 14 received awards for their valorous deeds in the North-East Region.

109 members of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), 108 members of the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Police, 19 members of the Border Security Force (BSF), 42 members of Maharashtra, 15 members of Chhattisgarh, and six members of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) are among the individuals who received gallantry awards.

Inspector General Charu Sinha's Srinagar sector of the CRPF received 40 medals for gallantry, the most of any unit in the nation.  Vivek Kumar Pandey, a spokesman for the ITBP, said that 20 medals had been awarded to employees, including three President's Police Medals for Distinguished Service and 11 other police medals for Meritorious Service.

Assistant Commandants  Prabhat Mukul Martin Minz and Amit Kumar, Assistant Sub Inspector Kuldip Raj, Head Constable Hamesh Kumar, and Constables Brahm Chandra and Shakti Kumar are among those who received bravery awards. ITBP spokesperson said, they were recognised for carrying out two distinct operations against the Naxals in Chhattisgarh.

BSF spokesman Krishna Rao said, Constable Kishan Kumar Dubey received a posthumous heroism medal for defending a forward station on July 9, 2015, in Kupwara, J&K, against unjustified gunfire from Pakistani forces.

For distinguished service, Bhisham Singh, the deputy commissioner of police in charge of the prime minister's security, has received the police medal. A medal for meritorious service was also given to Rahil M. Akbar of the Srinagar-based subsidiary intelligence bureau.
