SAG 2019: India topped with 312 medals, won 174 gold medals

In the 13th South Asian Games (SAIG), Indian players ended their campaign with a record 312 medals, with 174 gold, 93 silver and 45 bronze medals. India had won a total of 309 medals, including 189 gold in the previous games held in Guwahati and Shillong (2016). However, this time the number of gold medals is 15 less than the previous time. Host country Nepal finished second with 206 medals and Sri Lanka third with 251 medals. India has always been at the top of the medal table for these games, which started in 1984.

The boxers, led by Vikas Krishna (69kg) and Pinki Rani (51kg), won six more gold medals on the final day, helping India win 16 medals in the event. India won 18 medals including 15 gold, two silver and one bronze on the final day. Sparsh Kumar (52 kg), Narendra (plus 91 kg), Sonia Lather (57 kg) and Manju Bamboria (64 kg) also won yellow medals. Vikas beat Pakistan's Gul Jab 5-0, Narendra Nepal's Ashish Duwadi 5-0 and Sparsh defeated Pakistan's Syed Mohammad Asif 4-1.

Varinder Singh (60 kg) had to settle for the silver after losing 2-3 to Sanil Shahi of Nepal. Among the women, Sonia defeated Sri Lanka's Christian Ioma Dulang 5-0, while Pinky defeated Nepal's Rai Mala 3-2 and Manju also defeated Poonam Rawal of Nepal by a similar margin. The same basketball and men's and women's teams won gold medals. The men defeated Sri Lanka 101–62, the women defeated hosts Nepal 127–46 to win the title.
