BAN vs IND: Shami ruled out of India squad for Bangladesh tour

New Delhi: Team India's fast bowler Mohammed Shami will not be able to play in the ODI series against Bangladesh starting on Sunday (December 4) due to a hand injury. Sources in the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) have given information in this regard on Saturday. It is learned that Shami got injured during the practice session after coming back from Australia. In such a situation, Shami's playing in the two-Test series starting from December 14 in Chittagong is also doubtful.

BCCI sources have told the media on the condition of confidentiality that, 'Mohammed Shami was injured during the practice session after coming back from Australia. His hand is hurt. He has been asked to report to the National Cricket Academy and has not accompanied the team to the tour of Bangladesh on 1 December. The seriousness of Shami's injury was not known. The fast bowler from Bengal is an important part of Team India in this format keeping in mind the ODI World Cup to be held next year.'

If Mohammed Shami misses the Test series, it will be a matter of concern for captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid as India need to win every match to keep alive their hopes of reaching the final of the World Test Championship. Sources have said that 'Shami being out of the ODI series is a matter of concern, but if he is out of the Test series, then it will be a big concern because, in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, he will lead the Indian bowling in Test matches.'
