NEW DELHI: National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Thursday opened the Multiagency Maritime Security Group on Policy's first-ever meeting to discuss various national security-related topics. Doval stated that the security concerns for multiple locations, such as borders and other regions of the nation, are very different. He claimed that it was impossible to completely fence our border with our neighbours. The concept of sovereignty in land borders is geographical and well defined, he said, so you can't fence them in or maintain 24-hour surveillance. Doval said that vital information about security issues had been provided by intelligence services. He also covered topics like espionage, gunrunning, counterterrorism, and smuggling. Doval asserted that it is impossible to deny that foreign intelligence attempts to sabotage, spy, and subvert. He further said that the Indian Ocean had become competitive and that people needed to be on guard constantly to prevent collisions. Doval said that India was helping neighboring countries during crises such as at the time of disaster and other issues. The moment has arrived to establish a powerful maritime system, he added.
