India signs MoU with France for extended health research

NEW DELHI: India and France have signed an MoU aimed at cooperative research and focusing on new and re-emerging infectious diseases and genetic disorders, according to an official statement released on Wednesday.

According to a statement from India's Science and Technology Ministry, the MoU signed on Tuesday between India's CSIR and France's Institute Pasteur will enable the implementation of effective and inexpensive healthcare solutions not just for the people of India and France, but also for the global good.

The MoU aims to foster potential scientific and technology cooperation and networking between CSIR scientists and institutes/laboratories and Institut Pasteur and its international network in advanced and emerging fields of human health.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Shekhar C. Mande, Director General of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, and Professor Stewart Cole, President of the Institut Pasteur. Emmanuel Lenain, the French Ambassador to India, praised the work and emphasised its significance and impact on broader India-France S&T cooperation.

The Ambassador of India to France and the Embassy of India, represented by Deputy Chief of Mission, Dr Praphulla Chandra Sharma, expressed their complete support for this collaboration, calling it a "need of the hour" in the age of the pandemic.
