New Delhi: Since the ongoing dispute between India and China over the border, India has banned Chinese goods. The Indian government has now taken a tough stance on imports from China. E-commerce companies, manufacturing companies and marketing agencies that import packaged items from abroad will have to give proper details. If they do not show the origin of the products, they may also face a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh, plus a year in jail. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs has constituted the Central Consumer Protection Authority to take action against companies doing so. Action will be taken against such companies on the orders of the Central Government. The Ministry has appointed Additional Secretary as Chief Commissioner and Director General of BIS as Investigating Officer. Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said that he has written to all e-commerce companies and state governments that it is mandatory to mark the country of origin on the product under the packaged commodities rules. Talking to the media, the Secretary of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs said that if a manufacturer or marketing firm does not follow it, then in the first time it will be fined Rs 25,000. On doing this for the second time, a fine of Rs 50 thousand will have to be paid. After this, a fine of one lakh rupees or one-year imprisonment. This rule will also apply to e-commerce companies if they have not given information about it on their website.
