The Indian Naval Sailing Vessel (INSV) Tarini arrived in Fremantle, Australia, on November 9, marking the first stop of its global circumnavigation journey, Navika Sagar Parikrama II. The vessel completed the 38-day voyage, covering 4900 nautical miles (9074 km) after departing from Goa on October 2. Lt Cdr Dilna K and Lt Cdr Roopa A, the two-woman crew, faced challenging weather conditions and rough seas during their journey. Upon arrival, they were warmly welcomed by various dignitaries, including the Consul General of India in Perth, the Defence Advisor from Canberra, the Secretary of the Indian Navy Sailing Association (INSA), members of the Royal Australian Navy, and Indian Naval veterans residing in Australia. The Indian Navy highlighted that the Navika Sagar Parikrama II expedition reflects India's commitment to strengthening relationships with global maritime communities and promoting sustainable, inclusive global engagement. This ambitious voyage is part of a series of stops at major international ports, continuing the legacy of INSV Tarini's first circumnavigation, which celebrated gender equality and maritime cooperation. As the expedition progresses, INSV Tarini exemplifies the strength, skill, and resilience of India's women sailors while showcasing the country's rich maritime heritage. The expedition also aligns with India's broader efforts to enhance maritime security, following recent visits by Indian naval ships to Mozambique and Mauritius. India and Australia share strong ties in various sectors, with the call in Fremantle occurring during the 3rd Edition of the AUSTRAHIND Exercise, hosted in Pune, Maharashtra.
