Indian Navy Day 2022, Know History, Theme and more

Every Indian should be proud of Indian Navy Day. in 2022. Indian Navy Day is celebrated every year on December 4 with great pomp. Indian Navy Day is a celebration of the power of the Navy, as our Indian Navy functions as a very great and majestic army.

On the occasion of Indian Navy Day 2022, India commemorates the valour of the courageous warriors who, during the India-Pakistan conflict, defeated the Pakistani Navy. The year 1971 comes to mind, when Operation Trident saw our Indian Navy hand the Pakistani Navy a humiliating defeat.

History and relevance of Indian Navy Day: India has a 6,000-year maritime history that began with the Indus Valley civilization. India has always had a strong naval presence in the world. The navy played a significant role in several Indian empires. The Chola Empire, which ruled over most of South East Asia in the 10th century AD, is the one that springs to mind first since it heavily relied on the sea for its expansion and possessed the most potent navy at the time. The Maratha Empire's Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is regarded as the "Father of the Modern Indian Navy" since he revolutionised the nation's Navy during battles with Portuguese and later British invaders.

However, the present Indian Navy's origin may be traced back to 1612, when Captain Best's English ship came into contact with the Portuguese. Despite the Portuguese being defeated, the British were compelled to keep a fleet in the vicinity of Surat,  due to this episode and the trouble caused by the pirates to the merchant vessels, forced the British to maintain fleet near Surat, Gujarat.

Originally, India's Navy Day fell on the same day as Trafalgar Day for the Royal Navy. The Royal Indian Navy initially observed Navy Day on October 21, 1944. The purpose of observing Navy Day was to broaden outreach efforts and raise public knowledge of the Navy. After World War 2, Navy Day was observed annually on December 1st starting in 1945. Due to public enthusiasm, Navy Day was eventually honoured on December 15 and Navy Week was observed the week in which December 15 fell until 1972. Old customs give way to fresh justifications for the holiday in 1972.

In India, Navy Day is observed on December 4 to honour all the fallen soldiers from that conflict and to remember Operation Trident, the Indian Naval Missile Boats' strike on Karachi Harbor on December 4, 1971, during the Indo-Pakistan War. To avoid being discovered, Indian sailors spoke Russian during the raid. During the attack, Indian sailors communicated in Russian to avoid detection. No Indian sailors were killed in the attack.

As it is very important to celebrate the legacy of the Indian Navy because of all the contributions and sacrifices made by these Navy personnel and hence they should be remembered and respected for their selfless service for the nation. Let us be respectful towards them for keeping us safe from any threats.

Navy Day will be celebrated in a tremendous way this time, know how?
