In a bid to manage the heavy rush during the festive season, Indian Railways has introduced special train services across several routes, particularly for passengers in Mumbai and Bihar. With Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath Puja around the corner, the railways will operate a total of 6,556 special trains between October 1 and November 30.
One of the key services is the LTT Mumbai-Raxaul Superfast Special, which started running weekly from October 6 and will continue until February 2, 2025. This train aims to cater to the large number of passengers traveling between Mumbai and Raxaul during this busy time.
To enhance passenger comfort, Indian Railways will add 12,500 additional coaches, significantly more than last year’s 4,429 trains, ensuring that more people can travel conveniently during the festive period.
In the southern region, South Western Railway (SWR) is operating 24 special trains with 52 trips for the Dasara festival. It is also providing temporary stops for three trains and increasing the number of coaches for 34 others to meet the rising demand. Furthermore, for Diwali, SWR will operate six special trains with eight trips from different parts of Karnataka.
Central Railways has also announced 278 special trains for Diwali and Chhath Puja, ensuring smoother travel experiences for passengers. These additional services are intended to make holiday travel easier and more accessible during the peak festive season.
