Bangkok: India has been placed in Group D for the AFC U-17 Asian Cup 2023, to be held in Thailand from June 15. The Asian Football Federation (AFC) announced this at the draw ceremony of the tournament held here on Thursday. India will go on to face Japan, Vietnam, and Uzbekistan in the group stage. Indian U-17 men's team head coach Bibiano Fernandes said, 'We are all excited with the group we have in the draw. We are going to face some good opponents, and the players are really looking forward to it. Every footballer at every level wants to play against the best, and Japan is certainly one of the best in Asia.' He has said that our previous batches have certainly played against teams like Uzbekistan and Vietnam. We have gotten some good results against them, so we are excited to fulfil our goal of becoming the first Indian team to qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup. The top two teams from each group advance to the knockout stages, which consist of quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final. The four teams that reach the semi-finals will qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Peru in 2023. All matches of the AFC U-17 Asian Cup are scheduled to be held at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok, the Thammasat Stadium and the BG Stadium in Pathum Thani, and the Chonburi Stadium in Chonburi.
