India is hosting its first-ever large-scale multinational air exercise, 'Tarang Shakti,' starting today. This significant event will see air forces from the United States, Germany, France, and other nations showcasing their defense capabilities. The exercise will be held in two phases: the first in Sulur, Tamil Nadu, from August 6 to 14, and the second in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, from August 29 to September 14. Key Highlights of Tarang Shakti Participants: Air forces from approximately 30 countries will participate, although Russia and Israel are not among them. The Indian Air Force will showcase its LCA Tejas, Mirage 2000, and Rafale aircraft during the exercise. Significance: Described as a “landmark” event by Air Marshal AP Singh, Vice Chief of the Air Staff (VCAS), this is the largest international air exercise ever conducted in India. It begins with a presentation highlighting India's defense prowess and progress towards 'Atmanirbharta' (self-reliance) in defense. Confirmation and Observers: Ten countries have confirmed participation with their assets, while 18 will join as observers. With one more country potentially joining, the exercise is likely to include participants from 30 nations, including India. Aircraft Delivery Delays: Although the Tejas Mk-1A is part of India's fleet, it will not be available for this exercise due to delayed deliveries. This may lead to some rescheduling and rerouting of commercial flights. Objectives: The exercise aims to strengthen strategic relationships with international partners. Complex missions will enhance mutual understanding of air operations and air power applications, while providing a platform for practicing various combat scenarios in realistic environments. Cultural and Diplomatic Relations: Beyond military objectives, 'Tarang Shakti' seeks to bolster cultural and diplomatic ties among participating nations. The exercise provides a valuable opportunity for sharing best practices, learning operating procedures, and exchanging tactical and strategic knowledge. Overall Goals: The primary goal is to demonstrate energy and dynamism, learn from international partners, and foster deeper cooperation and understanding among the participating forces.
