The man who took birth to spread the light of inspiration by his tremendous work is none other than the Bharat Ratna Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, generally known as Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
The 11th President of India was born on October 15, 1931 Kalam came from a humble background. He sold newspapers to support his family financially when he was a kid.
Kalam raised in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, and studied physics and aerospace engineering. He spent the next four decades as a scientist and science administrator, mainly at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and was intimately involved in India's civilian space program and military missile development efforts.
Kalam was an institution-builder and a team-builder, a visionary and a dreamer, who always wanted to build a strong and self-reliant India. Missile Man was elected against Lakshmi Sehgal in 2002 and had support from both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress, the two leading parties of Indian politics.
Dr.Abdul Kalam was an extra ordinary man as he known as the father of Indian Missile Technology and has played a prominent role in India’s 1998 nuclear weapons tests.
Before becoming the president, Dr. Kalam worked as an Aerospace Engineer with DRDO and ISRO. He was called the “Missile Man” of India. Dr. Kalam was much more than a political figure. He was a scientist, writer, inspirational speaker and motivational figure.
He had written several bestselling books like Wings of Fire, Ignited Minds: Unleashing the Power Within India and India 2020. He was also a great speaker and had inspired millions of people through his incredible speeches.
Dr. Kalam had received several awards and recognition for his extra ordinary contribution to scientific research and modernization of defense technology in India. He was the man behind the operationalization of AGNI and PRITHVI missiles.
"Former president" and Bharat Ratna Dr. Abdul Kalam died in Shillong on July 2015, after he collapsed during a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management in the Meghalaya capital. Kalam (83) took ill and collapsed at around 6:30 PM at the function.
He was rushed to Bethany hospital's ICU in Nongrim hills area of Shillong. Doctors tried to revive him but failed to do so.
Army doctors were also called but they declared him dead due to a cardiac arrest at 7:45 PM.
As we feel the loss of one of the most loved and respected personalities of the country, a life-size statue of former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam was unveiled at Peikarumbu on today to give him a tribute on his first death anniversary.
