Chennai: The Institute of Aeronautics, Astronautics and Aviation (IAAA) will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and International Civil Aviation Day tomorrow, December 7, at Chennai Airport. This event will commemorate the founding day of ICAO, a significant milestone in the aviation world. International Civil Aviation Day has been observed annually since ICAO's 50th anniversary, emphasizing the importance of civil aviation and its contribution to global connectivity. The IAAA has hosted this celebration for several years, promoting awareness and honoring the achievements of aviation. To mark the occasion, ICAO releases a new theme every five years, highlighting the organization's global role. In 2019, Chennai also hosted the 75th-anniversary celebrations, with strong participation from the media partner Hindu Tamil Mata. This year's event promises to be just as special, with the Airports Authority of India joining as a partner and Hindu Tamil Veere and Tamil Nadu Government Startup TN Company providing support. Professor C.S. Karunakaran, Honorary Secretary General of the IAAA, announced that the ceremony would feature awards for outstanding aerospace startups. Additionally, a new section dedicated to the growth and innovation within the aerospace sector will be unveiled during the event. This celebration at Chennai Airport promises to be a remarkable tribute to ICAO’s enduring impact on global aviation.
