IRAN: Iran has conducted a high-profile funeral service for Ismail Haniyeh, a prominent Hamas leader, following his assassination in Tehran. The funeral was led by Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and took place on Thursday. This tragic event has heightened concerns about an escalating conflict in the Middle East and jeopardized ongoing cease-fire negotiations for Gaza. Haniyeh's death has sparked intense reactions. Both Hamas, which receives support from Iran, and Iranian officials have accused Israel of being behind the assassination. In response, Ayatollah Khamenei has called for a direct strike against Israel. This incident occurred shortly after an Israeli attack killed Fuad Shukr, a senior Hezbollah member, another militant group supported by Iran. The funeral saw Ayatollah Khamenei leading prayers over Haniyeh’s coffin at Tehran University. The event was attended by Iran's new President, Masoud Pezeshkian, among other officials and representatives from Palestinian militant groups. State television broadcast images of the coffins being transported through the streets of Tehran, with mourners throwing flowers in tribute. Following the ceremonies in Tehran, Haniyeh’s remains are scheduled to be transferred to Qatar for burial on Friday.
