Iranian Actor Arrested For Publishing Video supporting Anti-hijab Protesters

Iran International reported on Sunday that popular Iranian actress Hengameh Ghaziani had been arrested  a day after posting a video of herself appearing in public without the required headscarf.

Ghaziani captioned the Instagram photo with the phrase "this might be my last (Instagram) post" after uploading the video. From this point forward, know that whatever happens, I will always stand behind the Iranian people until the end of my days.

The Iranian actress made this decision in the midst of the anti-hijab demonstrations that are still going strong in Iran as a result of the passing of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old lady. The Iranian government then used a ruthless response on the demonstration, which was denounced by people all around the world. The Iranian government was urged by many EU nations to stop repressing anti-government protests violently. Due to the EU nations' objections, many of them decided to impose sanctions on Iran.

One of Iran's best actresses, Taraneh Alidoosti, shared a photo on Instagram earlier this month holding a sign that read, "Women, Life, Freedom" in protest rather than donning the required headscarf.

Before the protest movement spurred by Amini's killing began, Iranian cinema leaders were already facing criticism. Award-winning filmmakers Mohammad Rasoulof and Jafar Panahi are still being held in custody after being detained earlier this year.

Human rights organisations claim that since Iran's widespread demonstrations began following the murder of Mahsa Amini, 22, who died after being detained by the infamous morality police, more than 15,000 people have been detained.
