New Delhi: Tejas Express, the country's first private train running between Lucknow to Delhi, has been closed from today till further orders. Tejas was operated by IRCTC. Railway sources have said that passengers are not booking tickets from this train due to higher fare. It has been closed due to lack of passengers. The operation of Tejas was started on October 4 last year. Seats in Tejas remained vacant even on Deepawali. It is noteworthy that after the outbreak of Corona epidemic in the country, both these trains were stopped from March 19. Seats remained vacant in Tejas even during Diwali. Due to the higher fares, people are preferring to travel by flight rather than by train. There were a total of 736 seats in this train, but only 25-40 percent of the seats were being booked at this time. Whereas before lockdown, it used to book 50 to 80 percent seats. There was also a dispute about the central government allowing Tejas to operate. This was seen as a step taken by the central government towards the privatization of railways. IRCTC started Tejas operations between Delhi-Lucknow from October 4 last year and Mumbai-Ahmedabad Tejas from January 19 this year.
