Ireland Recognizes Palestinian State, Defying Israel's Opposition

In a significant move, Ireland has officially recognized a Palestinian state, a decision that was approved during a cabinet meeting on Tuesday morning, according to a statement released by the government. On Tuesday, Spain, Ireland, and Norway are set to officially recognize a Palestinian state, prompting a strong reaction from Israel. The move comes as Israel faces growing isolation following seven months of conflict in Gaza.

"The Government recognises Palestine as a sovereign and independent state and agreed to establish full diplomatic relations between Dublin and Ramallah," the statement said.

The decision includes the appointment of an Ambassador of Ireland to the State of Palestine and the establishment of a full Embassy of Ireland in Ramallah.

Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris emphasized that the move was aimed at preserving hope for peace in the region.

"This decision of Ireland is about keeping hope alive. It is about believing that a two-state solution is the only way for Israel and Palestine to live side by side in peace and security," he stated.

Harris also urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to heed international calls and address the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza.

The recognition of Palestine as a state by Ireland has drawn condemnation from Israel, which views such moves as premature and counterproductive to the peace process.
