Tehran: Reports indicate that the alleged Israeli overnight attack near an Iranian nuclear site involved the use of a high-tech missile capable of flying at supersonic speeds, making it difficult for aerial defense systems to detect and intercept. The strike occurred just days after Tehran's unprecedented assault on Israel. The missile, named 'Rampage', was reportedly developed by Israel's security industry. According to the Israel National News, the missile was identified in photos from the aftermath of the overnight strike on April 18, which targeted Iran's air defenses near the Natanz nuclear site in Isfahan province. The 'Rampage' missile carries a 150 kg explosive warhead and has a range of 145 km. It can also adjust its path mid-flight to precisely hit the intended target. The 'Rampage' missile is specifically designed to hit stationary targets similar to those targeted in the attack on military targets in Isfahan. The use of this high-tech missile in the strike was seen as a strategic move to deter Iran from further attacks on Israel, according to a report by The New York Times. Iranian officials confirmed that the Israeli strike hit a Russian-made S-300 air defense system, but Tehran did not detect any intrusions into its airspace on the day of the attack. According to The New York Times, the missile was fired from an S-35 warplane, which remained far from both Israeli and Iranian airspace. The missile and the plane did not enter Jordanian airspace. Meanwhile, satellite imagery showed damage to the Russian-made S-300 air defense system at the Eighth Shekari Air Base in Isfahan, as reported by The Times of Israel. This system is believed to be part of the security arrangements for the Natanz nuclear site. Additionally, synthetic aperture radar satellite images taken on Friday showed evidence that the radar site was targeted. Following the strike, Iran claimed that three small drones were involved in the attack. Iranian state TV reported that the small aircraft were destroyed by air defenses, without mentioning the use of missiles. Israel has not officially commented on the strike. The alleged attack on Iran occurred shortly after the US and the UK imposed fresh sanctions on Tehran in response to the all-out assault on Israel. These new sanctions targeted 16 individuals and two Iranian entities involved in producing engines for the drone used in the attack on Israel.
