Israel-Iran Tensions Escalate with Strikes in Lebanon; Iran Claims It Is Not Seeking War

At least six people were killed and seven injured after an Israeli airstrike hit a health center in Beirut's central suburb of Bachoura, according to the Lebanese health ministry. The medical center, linked to the Hezbollah-affiliated Islamic Health Organisation, was targeted as part of Israel’s ongoing military campaign. This marks the second time central Beirut has been attacked since the bombing campaign began.

Tensions between Israel and Iran have intensified following a missile strike from Iran after the reported death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded strongly, saying, "Iran made a big mistake tonight and will pay for it," adding, "Whoever attacks us, we attack them."

Reports suggest that Israeli naval vessels were used for the first time to strike southern Beirut. In retaliation, Iran fired around 200 ballistic missiles targeting Israel. This escalation has drawn international concern, with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres remarking that the region is facing "escalation after escalation."

Despite the rising hostilities, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that his country is not seeking war, stating that security in the West Asia region is important for all Muslims.

Meanwhile, in Gaza, at least 51 people were reported killed in Israeli strikes on Khan Younis, with more than 70 fatalities recorded overall from Israeli military actions on Wednesday. The casualties included seven women and 12 children.

In Iraq, it was reported that nearly a hundred families have named their newborns "Nasrallah" after the slain Hezbollah leader, further fueling the regional sentiment.

As the conflict deepens, Israeli soldiers are on high alert across borders in Gaza, Lebanon, and the West Bank, with forces reinforced and ready for further developments.
