IsraelWar Day-83: French President Macron urged for a long-term ceasefire in Gaza during a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. This plea coincided with WHO's chief, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warning about the alarming situation in Gaza, stating that its people are facing severe risks due to hunger and desperation caused by the ongoing conflict. The recent conflict intensified on October 7 when Hamas militants allegedly attacked southern Israeli communities, resulting in around 1,140 casualties, mostly civilians according to AFP. Israel reported that 129 hostages from this attack remain in Gaza. In response, Israel launched a forceful assault on Gaza, leading to approximately 20,057 casualties, mostly impacting women and children. However, a recent ceasefire enabled the release of 105 hostages, with 80 Israelis exchanged for 240 Palestinians held in Israeli prisons. President Macron assured Israel of France's cooperation with Jordan for humanitarian aid in Gaza during their call. He emphasized the need to stop violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and prevent new settlements. WHO's Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus highlighted Gaza's critical condition, mentioning acute hunger and desperation. Only 15 out of 36 hospitals in Gaza are partially operational. Tedros urged urgent international intervention to aid those suffering from injuries, hunger, and disease. The WHO faced challenges in delivering supplies due to hungry people halting their convoys in search of food. The situation has hindered the organization's ability to provide medical aid and fuel to hospitals. Additionally, in another incident, an Israeli strike in south Lebanon killed a Hezbollah fighter, leading to further retaliation from the Iran-backed group. The strike resulted in casualties, including two Australian citizens, confirmed by the Australian government. This ongoing conflict continues to raise concerns globally, with urgent appeals for peace and humanitarian aid for the people affected in Gaza.
