Italy pulled out of the FIFA World Cup for second time in a row

European champions Italy have missed the FIFA World Cup for the second time in a row. Italy suffered a sensational 0-1 defeat at the hands of North Macedonia in the playoffs and with this, they have been knocked out of the Football World Cup. Italy's defeat comes eight months after they defeated England at Wembley in the final of Euro 2020. North Macedonia will now take on Portugal in the final of the Path C qualifying on March 29.  Italy put pressure in the match but there has been no dent in North Macedonia's defence. Alexander Trajkovsky scored a sensational goal in the 92nd minute to give North Macedonia's supporters an opportunity to celebrate while the Italians had knelt in the field in despair.

In 2006, Italy has won the FIFA World Cup twice so far. The first time in 1982 and the second time in 2006. But after which their performance has not been level.
