‘It's a new morning for Amethi’ Smriti Irani after defeating Rahul Gandhi from his bastion

Amethi: Congress president Rahul Gandhi won in Wayanad (Kerala) with a margin of 4.2 lakh votes, and Congress bagged 15 seats in Kerala, but it was litle consolation for him on a day when he was stunned in his family bastion of Amethi by Smriti Irani.

Union Minister Smriti Irani, who defeated Congress’ chief Rahul Gandhi in his home turf, on Friday said that it's a 'new morning' for Amethi. Losing Amethi was a major setback for Congress. BJP  candidate Irani had trounced Rahul Gandhi in Amethi by a margin of 55,120 votes.

Irani took to Twitter and wrote, "It's a new morning for Amethi, a new determination. Thanks, Amethi, my obeisance. You put your trust in development and let the lotus bloom. Thankful to Amethi #PhirEkBaarModiSarkaar #VijayiBharat.”

Talking to news agency ANI, Irani (43) hailed the BJP and termed it as an organisation which works as a family. "On the one hand, there was a family and, on the other, an organisation which works like a family. The credit goes to the organisation and its workers and to the workers who died in Kerala and Bengal. I dedicate my victory to their families," she said.
