Jammu: By-elections in 12600 vacancies of Panch-sarpanches in the country's state of Jammu and Kashmir, COVID-19 will be held as soon as the conditions of infection improve. This was stated by Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam. There are 40000 total posts of Panch-Sarpanches in the state. Most of the empty posts are in the Kashmir Valley. Talking to reporters on Friday, the Chief Secretary said, in reality, our plan was to have a by-election by February-March, but the COVID-19 virus delayed the whole process. He further said that the Panchayat elections held in the year 2018 were a great experience. After the elections, money is flowing in the panchayats. Development works have been done to benefit the people. According to an official estimate, 11,457 panch and 887 sarpanch seats are vacant in Kashmir, while in Jammu division 182 panch and 124 sarpanch seats are vacant. The future panchayat by-election will be the first election after the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. As soon as there is some improvement in the same situation, only then elections can be held. On the other hand, in the state for the last few days, many security personnel also found corona infected. Their number is continuously increasing. 12 people were found corona infected inside Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy about a week ago. All of them were officers and soldiers who arrived for training in the academy and were from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir. The cases of corona in the state are continuously increasing.
