Japan Open 2023: Srikanth advances, Aakarshi bows out

TOKYO:  The Japan Open 2023 badminton tournament witnessed some thrilling matches, with Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth securing a spot in the Round of 16 after defeating Chinese Taipei's Chou Tien Chen in a remarkable encounter on Tuesday.

In a display of pure skill, former world no. 1 Srikanth outplayed Chou Tien Chen with a convincing score of 21-13, 21-13, in a match that lasted 43 minutes.

Now, all eyes are on Srikanth as he moves forward to the Round of 16, where he will face the winner between his compatriot Prannoy HS and the 2023 All England champion, China's Li Shi Feng, on Thursday. The anticipation is building as fans eagerly await this thrilling clash.

However, it wasn't all smooth sailing for India, as Aakarshi Kashyap faced a tough challenge and unfortunately lost her opening match in the women's singles category. Akane Yamaguchi, the top seed, displayed her prowess, defeating Kashyap with a score of 17-21, 17-21.

In the mixed doubles category, spectators were treated to an intense battle, but India's pair Rohan Kapoor and Sikki Reddy couldn't emerge victorious. They put up a great fight against Chinese Taipei's Ye Hong Wei and Lee Chia Hsin but were eventually defeated with a scoreline of 21-18, 9-21, 18-21.

With the action continuing, the spotlight now shifts to HS Prannoy, who is set to compete against China's Li Shi Feng, the reigning All England Open champion. Badminton enthusiasts are eager to witness this clash of titans and see who will come out on top in this thrilling contest.
