AFI to stage javelin throwing competition every year on August 7 in honour of Golden Arm of India

New Delhi: A big announcement has been made by the Athletics Association of India today i.e. Tuesday. Under which a javelin throw competition will be held in each district of the country from next year on August 7. The announcement comes in honor of Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, who won India's first Olympic gold medal in athletics.

The day of 7th August was chosen because Neeraj Chopra won a gold medal in javelin throw on 7th August. On Javelin Throw Day, Neeraj said, 'The Athletics Federation will celebrate Javelin Throw Day on August 7. It is historic that the Union adopted this method to remember my achievement. I'm quite happy.'  Taking his final throw during the Olympics, Neeraj said, 'The two throws, in the beginning, went quite well. Then some throws in the middle went bad. Before the last throw, I knew I had won a gold medal. I used to be very engrossed, but before that throw, I didn't understand anything just I threw the throw, but that throw went well.' Thus, a gold medal was added to India's account.

Neeraj said he had gone to Tokyo with a target of throwing spears 90 meters away. Talking about this, he said, "I was preparing to throw the 90 m spear this time. Javelin is a little technical. I was around it. This time I was thinking I'd do it. It's my dream to throw a 90 m throw, which I'll definitely fulfill."
