NEW DELHI: Jessel Carneiro, the captain of Kerala Blasters FC, will resign from the organisation on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, when his contract expires. After four years, the left-back's tenure with the Blasters comes to an end. Jessel, who joined the Club before the 2019–20 ISL season, had an immediate effect for Kerala Blasters FC in his debut campaign. He had great defensive abilities during his rookie season, neutralising opponent attacks while actively participating in the team's attacking plays. "Four years and a lifetime of memories. Go well, captain!, Kerala Blasters FC tweeted. Jessel's multi-year deal and appointment to vice-captain of the Club the following season were the results of a streak of reliable performances. After the then-captain, Sergio Cidoncha, suffered an injury in the middle of the season, Jessel stepped up to expertly fill in as Club Captain for the duration of the campaign. Jessel was named the Club's permanent captain for the ensuing 2021–2022 campaign. The fact that Jessel continued to lead the team despite a shoulder injury that sidelined him in the middle of the season and one of the league's youngest rosters at the time speaks volumes about his leadership and tenacity. Under Jessel's leadership, the Club finished in the top four and placed second in the Championship final with a number of players making their Club debuts. Jessel made over 65 appearances throughout his four seasons with the team, contributing 6 assists. He departs the club as a Club icon and a beloved member.
