London: Minutes into the second Ashes Test at Lord's, England wicket-keeper Jonny Bairstow took a Just Stop Oil protester off the play. To applause at Lord's, Bairstow picked up the demonstrator and carried him off the pitch before changing his shirt in the pavilion. As Bairstow carried the demonstrator off the pitch, paint spilled on him, causing him to change his shirt. Another Just Stop Oil protester also managed to enter the field of play before being removed by security personnel. A third demonstrator was prevented from entering the playing area. A statement from Just Stop Oil said a “69-year old-grandmother from Epsom” was one of the people taking action, but she did not make it onto the pitch. The statement said: Just Stop Oil supporters have disrupted The Ashes 2nd test match, at Lords cricket ground, between England and Australia. The Just Stop Oil supporters are demanding the UK government immediately halt new oil, gas and coal projects in the UK, and are calling on Lords to make a statement demanding an end to new fossil fuels. “At around 11:05am, three Just Stop Oil supporters stormed the pitch at Lords in a cloud of orange powder-paint. The supporters were removed from the pitch, one being carried off by Jonny Bairstow.” The Test game then resumed as Stuart Broad started his spell in the second over.
