Justice UU Lalit becomes 5th judge of Supreme Court Collegium

New Delhi: After Justice R Banumathi retired from the Supreme Court of the country, now Justice UU Lalit (Uday Lalit) is going to attend the Supreme Court Collegium on 20 July. Let me tell you that Justice Lalit will be the fifth senior judge of the top court who will play his role in the appointment of judges.

Along with the appointment of judges in the apex court and the High Court, the transfer of judges of the High Court is also done on the recommendations of the Supreme Court Collegium. Apart from Judge Lalit, Chief Justice (CJI) SA Bobde, Judge NV Ramana, Judge Arun Mishra and Judge RF Nariman are also members of the Supreme Court Collegium. However, Justice Arun Mishra is retiring on 5 September 2020.

Let us tell you that Justice UU Lalit was taken from the Bar on 13 August 2014. Justice Lalit, who began his legal career as a lawyer in June 1983, practiced in the Bombay High Court until December 1985. In January 1986, he shifted his advocacy to Delhi. He was nominated as the senior advocate of the top court in April 2004. The Supreme Court also appointed him to the post of special counsel of CBI for hearing in 2G cases.
