Lucknow: Severe cold wave conditions in north India have claimed the lives of the elderly. Senior citizens as well as youth are also seeing the impact of severe cold. Eight people were killed in the district on Thursday itself due to severe cold since night. Five people have died of brain stroke, while three have suffered heart attacks.

The impact of the cold on people's health can be gauged from the fact that 23 brain stroke patients have been admitted to halt emergency in the last 18 hours. Kanpur city is also experiencing blood clotting cold and doctors have to sit in OPD by evening in front of a crowd of patients at the Cardiology Institute. That's where all the beds of the institute are full. According to the information, a record 1,000 patients arrived in OPD on Friday. While Ashrafi Kumar has died of a heart attack in cardiology. Haji Abdul Mabood also died of a heart attack.

While Lalitesh of Kidwai Nagar and Sanjeev Singh of Bidhanu, Rajni of Fatehpur and Ishwar Chandra Singh of Jehanabad died of brain stroke in Halt Emergency. Rafi Waki's mother Anees Begum (80) suffered from a brain stroke. In addition, Imam maulana Asim Zafar Sabri of Choti Idgah also succumbed to his injuries in a nursing home. Dr SK Gautam of the Medicine Unit said the number of brain stroke patients has increased since Thursday night.
