Kalyan-Dombivli civic body seeks MPCB nod to implement the project of producing fuel from plastic waste

The Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) in Thane district has sought the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board's (MPCB) permission to implement a project of producing fuel from plastic waste. 

KDMC said the move comes after it successfully produced 85 litres of fuel from plastic waste on Tuesday as part of a trial. In a statement the civic body said that it had successfully produced 85 litres of fuel from plastic waste on Tuesday as a part of their trial. The KDMC is carrying out the project in association with Rudra Environmental Solutions. A civic official cliamed that this fuel can be used for oil boilers, and testing is underway to see if it can be used for vehicles also. Under the project, one tonne of plastic can be processed in order to produce around 500 litres of fuel. 

Recently, In a bid to encourage citizens towards proper disposal of plastic,  KDMC had launched a scheme wherein for every 5 kgs of plastic waste, the citizens were promised a coupon of 'poli bhaji'.
