Donald Trump, a Republican presidential candidate, shared that he received a call from his Democratic rival, Kamala Harris, days after surviving an assassination attempt at his Florida golf club. Trump revealed this during a Fox News town hall with Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
Trump mentioned that President Joe Biden also reached out regarding his Secret Service protection. "President Biden called me yesterday. He was very nice... a nice conversation. I appreciate that he called," Trump said during the event.
In addition to Biden, Trump also talked about his call with Harris, stating, "I got a very nice call from Kamala... It was very nice, and we appreciated that." He highlighted the importance of political unity and reiterated his goal to "make America great again."
The White House characterized Harris’s call as a “cordial and brief conversation,” where she expressed relief that Trump was unharmed. In a separate interview in Philadelphia, Harris confirmed that she checked on Trump, saying, "I told him what I’ve said publicly, there is no place for political violence in our country."
This incident marked the second assassination attempt on Trump within two months. The most recent attempt involved a suspect, Ryan Routh, who was arrested while carrying an AK-47-style rifle. A Secret Service agent successfully neutralized the situation before any harm was done.
