Kamala Harris Leading Trump by 14-Points with Millennials and Gen Z: Here’s What It Means

Kamala Harris, the US Vice President, has gained substantial support in several key voter demographics since entering the 2024 Presidential race. A recent poll reveals that the 59-year-old leads Republican nominee Donald Trump by 14 points among voters aged 18 to 49. This marks a significant improvement compared to US President Joe Biden's performance, where he trailed Trump by one point in the same age group.

Harris has also strengthened her position with independent voters, turning a six-point deficit under Biden into a nine-point lead against Trump. The poll highlights that Harris has made notable gains among women, suburban, and rural voters, forming a broader base of support compared to her predecessor.

However, Harris faces challenges with older voters. The poll shows her trailing Trump by seven points among voters aged 65 and older, a demographic that makes up a large portion of the electorate. Republican pollster Bob Ward noted that Harris' biggest weakness lies in this group, where concerns about inflation and high prices appear to drive their preference for Trump.

Gender divides are also evident in the poll results. Harris leads among women by 19 points, while Trump holds a 16-point lead among men, likely driven by economic issues. Voters aged 50 and above tend to prioritize economic stability, a factor that plays in Trump's favor.

In terms of overall approval ratings, 49% of voters disapprove of Trump's past job performance as president, while 50% approve. As for Harris, 45% of voters approve of her job as vice president, while 52% disapprove, indicating room for improvement as the election season progresses.
