Kamal Nath govt to initiate probe against Shivraj Singh Chouhan in plantation drive corruption case

Bhopal: Accusing the scam in  in the 2017 massive plantation drive, Forest Minister Umang Singhar of Madhya Pradesh has handed over the case to the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW). The names of former Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan, the then forest minister Gaurishankar Shejwar and some officials have come up in this case.

It is worth noting that in the year 2017 on July 2, more than seven crore 10 lakh trees were claimed to be planted along the banks of the Narmada river in one single day. Umang Singhar, who became forest minister in the Congress government after the change of power in the state, visited the forests of Betul district, then it came to know that where 15 thousand 526 saplings were planted, now only 15 per cent saplings (about two to three thousand saplings) ) left and only 9 thousand pits have been found.

The then Shivraj government had claimed to plant 7 crore 10 lakh 39 thousand 711 saplings on 2 July 2017. When the Chartered Accountant of the Guinness Book of World Records verified this, 2 crore 22 lakh 28 thousand 954 plants were found at 5,540 places. 499 crore rupees were spent by various departments on this event.
