Imphal: A man was shot dead in Manipur's Imphal East district, police reported on Sunday. The incident occurred at Tekcham in the Lamlain police station area on Saturday. The victim, identified as RK Prithibi Singh, was found blindfolded with his hands tied behind his back and was shot at point-blank range, according to police. The Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP Progressive), a proscribed outfit, claimed responsibility for the execution-style killing. The group alleged that Singh was spying for security forces and was a former militant who had collaborated with other surrendered militants in espionage activities. In a related development, police arrested a militant from the proscribed KCP (Taibanganba) faction in Tejpur Makha Leikai, Kakching district. The arrested individual, identified as Ningthoujam Ashakumar Meetei (33), was allegedly involved in extortion activities, police said.
