Kanpur Railway station to be named after Atal Bihari Vajpayee

KANPUR: Following the elevation of the Anwarganj railway track, a new station close to the Kanpur University will bear the name of the late prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

At a recent meeting with railway authorities, the members of parliament for Kanpur, Satyadev Pachauri, and Akbarpur, Devendra Singh Bhole, submitted a suggestion to this effect.

An official statement from the railway department said that the Anwarganj-Madhana section would be elevated. Five months have passed since the start of the Rs 1,200 crore project to build the 16.5 kilometre elevated track. The new station close to Kanpur University will get the late leader's name once the track has been lifted.

For the past five months, construction on this 16.50 kilometre elevated track, worth Rs 1200 crore, has advanced quickly. In this part of the North-Eastern Railway, which divides the city's southern region with a population of about 15 lakh, the elevated track would alleviate the issue of congestion at 16 railway crossings. Satyadev Pachauri, a city BJP MP who has been working hard in this area, recently met VK Tripathi, chairman of the Railway Board, in Delhi. He said that the meeting with Railway Board representatives included a discussion of the Anwarganj-Mandhana elevated railway track project.
