Karnataka HM warns the state to witness fourth Covid peak after June

BENGALURU: Karnataka Health Minister K. Sudhakar said on Tuesday that the state will see a peak in Covid case after June, which will last until September and October, citing a report from IIT Kanpur on a fourth Covid-19 wave.

IIT Kanpur has also produced findings during the previous three waves, said the Minister, which were "accurate and scientific."  "We must begin to live with Covid-19, which can be done simply by becoming vaccinated and wearing masks. It can protect you from sickness "he said.  Fears about the impending fourth wave have led to tighter limitations on Ramzan celebrations.

Following the Prime Minister's meeting with Chief Ministers on Wednesday, authorities are considering imposing even more restrictions. The Health Minister said, the current virus is mutant and belongs to the Omicron viral sublineage.

In this regard, an official report from the lab is still pending, he said, adding that the number of cases in Karnataka is quite low as compared to other states. The Minister clarified that saying the fourth wave has arrived is incorrect. He emphasised that immunisation is the only way to prevent fatalities and hospitalizations. For individuals who have had vaccination, it will come as a flu-like infection. It will be harmful to those who have not been vaccinated, he said.
